On this beautiful island that urban renewal forgot, our historic houses are treasure chests, containing powerful – if unknown – secrets of our inception. The 1866 Haller House can reveal those secrets – from diverse perspectives, in a myriad of ways. But we have to rescue it from the ravages of time first!

The tenacious Haller House has the spirit of Colonel Haller holding it up in defiance of 150 years of the elements, earthquakes and neglect. We at Historic Whidbey admire this indomitable spirit and are committed to insuring it stands for many, many years to come. The Colonel’s house won’t give up, and neither will we!

Historic Whidbey is happy to announce the re-launch its capital campaign to acquire and rehabilitate the 1866 Haller House as an educational site for public benefit – a “Territorial Heritage Center.”

We are joined in our new campaign by the National Park Service, whose participation in the acquisition of the $375K property makes this new campaign possible. Their contribution of $110K will both purchase the waterfront parcel and place preservation easements on the house and houselot. Combined with the $100K retained from our 2016 campaign, this leaves us with $165K to raise over the next six months – a sum we will raise through the energetic pursuit of grants and private donations.

This new community heritage center will add richness and depth to historic downtown Coupeville, Ebey’s Reserve, Whidbey Island, and the Washington Territory. Once restored, a supporting retail outlet and the rental of office and community space will generate the income necessary to sustain this wonderful architectural treasure into the future.

Please help Historic Whidbey & the National Park Service make this dream a reality, preserving and presenting our dramatic founding stories for generations to come.
