Every year, we receive more applicants than we are able to accommodate at YHP. Applicants are primarily evaluated based on their responses to these essay questions. Please answer thoughtfully!

This year’s YHP is being held at Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve on Whidbey Island. The Reserve encompasses federal, state, county, town, and private lands. Within that are historic sites, historic buildings, agricultural lands, maritime resources, and private residences. This year’s YHP program will focus on managing the effects of climate change. What is one way you think the community could work together to address the impacts of climate change on the historic and cultural resources found within the Reserve?*

Please identify a historic or cultural resource in your community (or simply a resource you like) that has been impacted by climate change. What was the impact to the resource? Could the impact have been avoided, and if so, how? What was the community’s response?*

Please tell us about your teaching or professional experience that would make you an ideal Teacher/Mentor to help guide students through the many histories of the Ebey’s Reserve and Whidbey Island communities, past and present.*

Will travel be a potential barrier for attending YHP? If yes, please explain:

Parents/Guardians can check-in their student on Tuesday, July 16 around noon at Camp Casey, our lodging side on Whidbey Island. Another option we provide is a carpool from Seattle departing that same morning. Pick-up and carpool home is Friday afternoon on July 19. If you need additional travel support, financially or logistically, please let us know here so we can assist as early as possible.
